On the 26th of may 2023, we sent out a small group of Deezers, consisting of Antonius and Nathan, to Mosa-RT in Maaseik to participate in the first ever edition of the Steam-Ohm contest. 

 

We arrived at 9:45 and set up our station by 10:00. For the remainder of the day we passed time by visiting other groups and participating in some of the activities organized by the steam group of the school. 

 

Unfortunately we were unable to win a prize as there was another group with the same idea which had been worked out more extensively, as well as not having enough time to fully complete the project.

 

The project we had consisted of a plastic container which held loam and some Moroccan  mint, with an Arduino and a NPK sensor in a box embedded in the soil. The goal was to measure the amount of NPK (Nitrogen Phosphorus and Potassium), the temperature and the amount of moisture in the soil. This worked out but we did not have anything to link the sensors to (like a sprinkler which could spray the plant with water if the moisture level was too low). This ultimately led to us not being awarded a prize, but it did not demotivate us in correlation to trying again next year.

 

All in all we had fun and gained experience for the next edition.
